Skunk Works

Project management that pulls its weight.

Skunk Works gives every project a backlog, sprints, a board and a schedule, with AI built into the moments your team actually has: writing the work down, planning the sprint, running it and wrapping it up. The AI proposes, you decide, and the numbers come from your own project.

Skunk Works

Less admin. More shipping.

Write it once, in a sentence

Type “login breaks on Safari when the password has an emoji” and get a proper item back: a title, a description with acceptance criteria and steps to reproduce, and a suggested type, priority, points and owner.

Sprints that fit your real pace

Plan picks backlog items that fit the points your team actually finished in its last three sprints. The pace is worked out from your sprints, not guessed, and every pick comes with its reason.

The spec is one click away

Link the project’s documents from Data Management straight into an item. The item shows on the document too, so whoever opens either one can find the other.

From a sentence, or a meeting, to a backlog.

Most work starts as a line in a chat or a page of meeting notes. Draft with AI turns a sentence into an item worth picking up. Paste your notes or a spec, or choose a document from Data Management, and Skunk Works proposes the items it implies, leaving unticked the ones you already have.

  • Points from your own history: estimates are based on similar items your team has finished, and it says which.
  • Already on the list? If the work looks like an item you have, it says so, with a link.
  • Break an epic down into stories and tasks, each with a size, and keep the ones you want.

Skunk Works

Here’s a draft: a High-priority Bug, 3 points like WR-4 and WR-9, with steps to reproduce and acceptance criteria. It looks like WR-12, “Safari sign-in error”, so you may want to check that one first.

Plan the sprint. Run it. Wrap it up.

Plan proposes backlog items that fit the room left in the sprint, at the pace your team really works. While the sprint runs, Summary gives you a sprint brief, a standup for each person taken from the items’ history, and what’s at risk. When it ends, the AI drafts the sprint review: what shipped, what slipped and themes for next time.

  • Risks by fixed rules: work stuck in progress for four days, items past due, urgent work nobody owns and a sprint falling behind its calendar, each with one suggested next step.
  • Catch me up on any item: what it is, what happened, what was decided and what’s still open.
  • A board for the running sprint: To Do, In Progress, In Review and Done.

Plan for Sprint 14

  • Your pace: 21 points a sprint, from the last three
  • Room left in this sprint: 8 points
  • WR-31 · 5 points · next in the Checkout epic
  • WR-27 · 3 points · High priority, due this sprint

The numbers come from your project.

Counts, points, days and pace are worked out from your own items and sprints. The AI only writes the sentences around them, and a sentence that quotes a number your project doesn’t contain is left out. So when the brief says 13 of 21 points are done, they are.

  • The AI proposes; you decide. Nothing is saved until you press Create, Add, Save or Confirm.
  • An honest record: an accepted draft is marked “Drafted with AI” in the item’s Activity.
  • This project only. The AI reads its items, sprints and history, and a document only when you choose one.

Sprint brief

13 of 21 points are done, with 4 of 10 days left. Two items have been in In Review since Monday, and the checkout bug has nobody assigned yet. Since yesterday, WR-27 and WR-29 were closed.

Every project document, linked both ways.

Type / in a description or a comment to link a spec, a design or a contract from the project’s Data Management. It shows as a chip with the document’s name, and the chip stays current: rename the document and every chip follows; archive it and the chips say so.

  • Linked work items on every document show which items rely on it, and you can create one from there.
  • Turn a document into a backlog straight from Data Management.
  • Save an item as a page, and file its screenshots in Data Management.

A schedule leaders can read at a glance.

The Schedule lists your epics, the bigger goals, in priority order, each with a bar from its start to its target date. Drag a bar to move it or an end to change a date, and watch each one fill as its work gets done. A red outline means past its target and not done.

  • Weeks, months or quarters, with your sprints along the top and a line for today.
  • Open an epic to see every item in it, who has it and where it stands.
  • Progress in plain words, such as “3 of 8 items · 13 of 21 pts”.

Schedule

  • 1 · Checkout redesign · 13 of 21 pts
  • 2 · Mobile sign-up · 2 of 9 items
  • 3 · Partner portal · past its target date

Ask Odin, and confirm what it does.

With Skunk Works open, ask Odin to find items, tell you where the sprint stands, or create and change work, typed or spoken. Odin never changes anything by itself: it shows a card listing exactly what it would do, and nothing is saved until you press Confirm.

  • Speak instead of type: every AI box has a microphone.
  • Emails about what’s yours: assigned to you, a comment on your item, a mention, due tomorrow or overdue.
  • Everyone who can open the project can plan, work and comment in it.

Create a bug for the Safari login issue, assign it to Ana, put it in Sprint 14.

Odin

Proposed, nothing is saved yet: create a Bug, “Login fails on Safari with an emoji in the password”, assigned to Ana, in Sprint 14. Confirm, or Not now?

Instead of a separate project tracker with its own logins, its own copy of your documents and its own AI add-on, Skunk Works is included in every plan. The AI work it does for you is metered like the rest of VeraGen, to the cent.

Fair questions.

Does the AI change things on its own?

No. Everything it writes is a draft until you press Create, Add, Save or Confirm, and Odin shows exactly what it would do before anything is saved. An accepted draft is marked “Drafted with AI” in the item’s Activity, so the record stays honest.

Where do the numbers come from?

From your project. Counts, points, days and your team’s pace are worked out from your own items and sprints; the AI only writes the sentences around them. The pace is the points your team finished, on average, in its last three completed sprints. Before your first sprint is complete there is no pace yet, and the plan says it is a first guess.

What does the AI read?

Only the project you are in: its items, sprints and history, and a document only when you choose one. Never another project, and never another account.

Who can use it?

Everyone who can open the project: the account’s owners and admins, the project’s owner and the people added to the project. They can create and change items, plan and run sprints, set the schedule and comment. Someone on a read-only plan can look but not change anything.

Who gets emailed, and about what?

People hear about work that is theirs: an item assigned to them, a comment on their item, a mention, and an item due tomorrow or overdue. Nobody is emailed about something they did themselves, and an email never includes the description or what a comment said.

What does it cost?

Skunk Works is included in every plan. The AI work it does — drafting, planning, briefs and reviews — uses your AI credit like the rest of VeraGen and shows as Skunk Works on your bill. With no credit left, or past your monthly cap, the AI buttons say why and nothing is spent.

Is it finished?

Skunk Works is in beta. Everything on this page works, and it is still being improved.
