Speaking instead of typing
Most boxes where you write to the AI have a microphone beside them:
- Odin: the chat, and Ask Odin in the apps menu.
- Projects: Context notes, the Systems Diagrams description, crawl instructions and the crawl chatbot, Lead Generation briefs and scoring rubric, Persona Simulation questions and metric rubrics, Uptime QA instructions and success goal, News house rules and per-source notes.
- Beacon: Ask the AI to write it, the rewrite box, the source copy and the brand voice.
- Workflows: Build by asking, the test chat, and the Agent and Loop steps (the prompt, the goal and Done when).
- Ascend: the course designer, the generate dialogs, the role-play setup, Insights questions, and Ask the tutor and role-play practice.
- Thrive: Draft it for me in outreach.
- Chat & Research: the message box, and the prompts in a prototype's Edit bar.
- Video Studio: describing a new video, the AI director, a scene's script, the shot descriptions in the storyboard and in a scene, making or extending a shot with AI, and making music or a shot in Media.
- Data Management: the search, and on a page, Ask Odin to write or change this and Tell Odin what to change.
How it works
- Press the microphone (or Tab to it and press Enter). The first time, your browser asks for permission to use the microphone.
- Say what you would have typed.
- Pause. What you said is turned into text and added to the box. Press the microphone again to stop early.
The text waits in the box: read it, change it if you need to, then press the button you normally would. Nothing is sent to the AI until you do. Three places go further and send it as soon as you pause, because they are conversations: Odin, the Chat & Research message box, and Ascend's Ask the tutor and role-play practice. In those, press the microphone again before you pause to stop early: the words wait in the box for you to check.
A recording can be up to a minute. If nothing is heard for a few seconds, the microphone switches off by itself and nothing is charged.
If the microphone does not work
- "The microphone is blocked for this site": allow the microphone in your browser's site settings (usually the icon to the left of the address), then press the microphone again.
- "No microphone was found": plug one in, or choose one in your computer's sound settings.
- No microphone button at all: this browser cannot record. You can still type.
Privacy and cost
The recording is turned into text by a speech service and is not kept. Turning speech into text uses a little credit, charged by the length of the recording (at least 15 seconds each time) and shown in Billing under the app you were speaking in.
