Video Studio
Finding media: the Media Browser
The Media Browser is where you find pictures, clips, graphics, backgrounds, music and sound effects for a video and put them where they go. It searches this project's own media, the VeraGen library, stock from Storyblocks and public-domain photos in one place. It covers the editor while you use it, with the Video Studio rail still beside it; Back returns you to the editor exactly as you left it: the same playhead, selection, panels and timeline scroll.
Opening it
| From | What it opens for | |---|---| | ▦ Browse media in the editor's top bar, or the M key | Collecting several things, placed at the playhead | | The I key | A picture at the playhead; with a picture or clip selected, replacing it | | Change under Source in a layer's Properties | Replacing that layer's file, keeping its position, timing and effects | | Change background… in a scene's Properties | That scene's picture or clip | | Choose media… on a storyboard scene | That scene's visual | | Library → Change music… | The video's music | | Library → Browse sound effects | Sound effects, placed at the playhead | | Library → On every cut → Choose a sound… | A sound on every change of scene | | + on a track's heading, a double-click on an empty stretch of a lane, or a track's + Add buttons | That track, at that time | | Library → Brand pack → Choose logo… | The project's Brand Kit logo | | The search field in the editor's Media tab, then Enter | Everything, with those words | | Media in the Video Studio rail | Your media, as a list (see below) |
The pill at the top, Placing into: …, says where new picks go. Click it to send new picks somewhere else: the playhead, an overlay, a scene's background, or Media only.
When the browser is opened for one slot (a scene's background, the music, a replacement, the logo), a bar reads Choosing: … and Use places the item and returns you to the editor. Kinds that cannot fill the slot are greyed out, with the reason.
Kinds of media
| For this video | One row per scene, each searching for what the scene's script says, with the scene's line and what it shows now. Change a scene's search in its Search box and press Enter. Rows for Music (tracks long enough for the whole video) and Cuts follow. |
|---|---|
| All | A shelf of each kind: your media, the VeraGen library, video, photos, music, sound effects, graphics and your brand. |
| Video, Photos, Graphics, Backgrounds | Stock and your own media, with filters. Photos and Graphics also show the VeraGen library (see below): Photos its pictures, Graphics its cut-outs and icons. Graphics has vectors, illustrations and VeraGen's own graphics; Backgrounds has motion backgrounds, your brand colours and gradients. |
| Music, Sound effects | The VeraGen library, your own sound files and Storyblocks. Press ▶ to listen; one plays at a time. Hovering a sound effect plays it once you have clicked anywhere on the page, unless Mute hover previews is ticked. |
| Brand | Your Brand Kit logo, colours and the brand pack. A colour becomes a full-frame colour card, or a scene's background colour. |
Searching
Type what you need in plain words, such as close up of hands fixing a sink, vertical, under 10 seconds, and press Enter. Words that are a filter become chips under the search (Vertical, Under 10 s); the rest are what is searched for. Remove a chip with its ✕. A chip struck through was not used, and says why: for example Square is not available for video. Your media and the VeraGen library filter as you type; stock is searched when you press Enter.
Filters on the left are only the ones each kind can honour: Shape, Length, Transparency, Vocals and Mood for music, Type, VeraGen library (a category, and in Graphics cut-outs only or icons only), Storyblocks category and Sort. A filter set by where you came in (such as Vertical (matches your video) or At least 7.0 s (Scene 3)) shows as a dashed chip. Clear all goes back to those.
Sources on the left turn each source on or off; VeraGen library is the first one. Wherever Storyblocks results are shown, the browser carries the line Stock media from Storyblocks. Public-domain photos are searched only when you ask: in Photos, press Also search public-domain photos, then Search public-domain photos. That search is shared by everyone on VeraGen and has a daily limit; when it is reached it says so, and Storyblocks photos still work.
Cards and details
A stock card marked In project (In proj. on a small card) is already in this project. One marked In your account (In acct.) has already been brought in for another of your projects: adding it here uses the same file, with no new download. An amber Editorial only badge means the item is not for ads or promotion. Hover over a clip to play its watermarked preview; move the pointer across it to scrub. Previewing brings nothing in.
Click a card to open its details: a larger preview, the licence (contributor, model and property releases, editorial use), what file would come in (for example MP4 1080p), and its keywords (click one to add it to the search). In scene shows the picture or clip in a scene's frame with the scene's words over it, so you can judge it before picking; ◂ ▸ steps through the scenes. It changes nothing in the video. An item with no file Video Studio can use says so and cannot be picked.
Make a shot for this scene (or Make it with AI) films an AI shot from the scene's script, priced before you start; it lands under the scene when it is ready, with its own undo step. Make music for this video makes a track to the video's length that becomes its music. If it cannot be started (for example, it would go over a spending limit), the details say why and nothing is made. Only what is made is charged. AI shots
Picking and your plan
Picks collect in the plan along the bottom, which shows your scenes with their first words, and slots for the playhead, Music, Cuts and Media only. Pick with + on a card, the X key, a scene number, or by dragging a card onto a scene or slot (a slot that cannot take it says why). The summary counts your picks.
- Review (or T) lists every pick with Goes to, so you can change where each one goes or remove it.
- Arrange lays out several pictures or clips at the playhead One after another, Stacked, or One per scene from a scene you choose. One after another can run past the end: the video then grows to hold them, and the plan says how long it would be.
- Fill empty scenes puts picks into the scenes that have no picture yet, in the order you picked them.
- There is one music bed: a second music pick replaces the first.
- ⌘Z in the browser undoes the last change to the plan; your video is untouched until you place.
The VeraGen library
Pictures, cut-outs and icons that VeraGen made with AI for everyone's videos. They are listed in Photos (pictures), in Graphics (Cut-outs and Icons) and in a VeraGen library shelf in All. Words you type narrow them when you press Enter, Shape narrows by landscape, portrait or square, and the VeraGen library filter picks a category. A cut-out or icon with a see-through background sits on a checkerboard so you can see what is transparent. Each card carries a small AI marker; one already in this project says In project instead.
They are not charged for. Pick one and place it like any other picture: it is added to the project's Media as a reference to VeraGen's shared file (nothing is copied), once. Picking it again uses that same entry, so it is never added twice. Adding one needs the Publisher role or above; anyone on the project can browse them. You can use them inside your own videos, and because they are AI-generated, say so when you publish a video that uses one. Publishing and AI disclosure If the library has nothing in a kind yet, the section says so.
Placing
Place brings in what needs bringing in, then places everything in one step.
- Files come in one at a time. One that fails says why and offers Retry; you can place the rest meanwhile. After a few seconds Keep editing returns you to the editor while the rest come in; each then lands with its own undo step. If you open another video while files are still coming in, nothing is placed in that one: they wait in the plan of the video you picked them for, ready to place, and a message says so.
- The editor comes back as you left it, with the same layer selected, the new layers flash on the timeline, and a message names what landed and where, with Undo and Show. Show selects a new layer; Undo (or ⌘Z) takes the whole placement back in one step.
A clip or sound placed at the playhead runs for its whole length; for a file you uploaded, the length is measured once it is placed and the layer fitted to it. A clip shorter than its scene ends before the scene does, and its last frame holds until the scene ends. Leaving with picks not placed asks whether to Place, Keep for later (they wait behind Browse media, which shows how many) or Discard.
Adding stock needs the Publisher role or above; anyone on the project can search, preview, pick and try things in a scene.
Your media (the Media page)
Media in the Video Studio rail opens the browser as a list of every file in the project, 200 at a time (Showing 1–200 of …, with Next 200), with each file's kind, source, size and Used in: how many of the project's videos use it. A video you exported from Video Studio says Exported from Video Studio as its source. Choose a kind, or sort by Newest, Name or Largest (across every page) or Most used (this page). Sources on the left (Uploads, which also covers exported videos, AI-made, Stock already brought in) narrow the page you are looking at, and say how many of its files match; Show every source puts them all back. Upload files (or drop files anywhere) adds files: a strip at the bottom shows each upload's progress, a file that is not a picture, clip or sound says so, and the list shows the new files when the upload is done. ✦ Generate a shot with AI films a new clip for Media; shots being made are listed at the top. Tick files and press Take out of the library to remove ones Video Studio made or brought in; videos that already use them keep them. Uploaded files are removed in Data Management. Stock picked here is added to Media without being placed in a video.
On a phone
The kinds are a row of chips, Filters opens a sheet from the bottom, and a tap opens a card's details. Press and hold a card to start picking; then each tap picks or unpicks, and Done stops. Plan along the bottom shows how many you have picked, and Place places them.
