Generate a shot with AI (Veo)
Describe a shot and Veo, Google’s video model, films it: real-looking people, places and products, with their own sound. The finished clip lands in Media, ready to drag onto the timeline like any upload.
- On the Media page, or in the editor's Media tab, press ✦ Generate a shot with AI (Veo).
- Describe what the camera sees and hears: who is in it, what they do, the place, the light, the sounds, and any line someone says.
- Choose the Shape (Widescreen 16:9 or Vertical 9:16), the Length (4 s, 6 s or 8 s) and the Quality: Draft is quicker, for trying an idea; Final is the best there is.
- Optionally, under Steer it with, choose one way to guide it: - Reference pictures: up to three of your pictures in Media, such as a person, a product or your logo. The AI keeps them as they are, which is how the same character, or your logo on a shirt, stays the same from shot to shot. A shot with references is 8 seconds. - Start from a picture: the shot opens on one of your pictures and brings it to life. Pick a second picture and the shot moves from the first to the second, which is how two shots can be joined without a visible cut. The AI takes references or a start picture, not both, so the dialog offers one at a time. Words only uses neither.
- The price is shown above the button and on it (Generate — $…), and changes when you change the length, quality or how it is steered. It is worked out again each time you open the dialog, so a top-up made since shows straight away. Press Generate. If the shot cannot be made now (the account's AI credit does not cover it, counting shots still being made, you have reached your monthly usage cap, or the video has reached its spending limit for AI work), Generate is greyed out and the dialog says which.
A shot takes a few minutes: about two to make, and a little longer when nothing has been made for a while. It shows in Media as Making your shot… and you can keep editing meanwhile; a message says when it is ready. If making it stops part-way (for instance because the service restarted), it is marked as failed within a few minutes, nothing is charged, and you can generate it again.
Extend a shot
A shot the AI made can be carried on. Select it on the timeline and, in its properties, press ✦ Extend this shot by 7 seconds. Describe what happens next and choose Draft or Final; the price is shown first. The AI continues from the shot's last moment, with its sound, and adds 7 seconds. The longer clip arrives in Media as a new clip and the original is kept, so drag the longer one onto the timeline in its place. A clip up to 30 seconds long can be extended again; only shots generated here can be extended, not uploaded clips.
What it costs
The price is shown in the dialog before you generate, and you are charged only for a shot that is made: a shot that fails, or that the AI declines, costs nothing. Shots appear in your usage under Video Studio. Each video has a spending limit for AI work, restyles and generated shots together.
What it will not make
Real, named people (celebrities, public figures) cannot be generated, and a description the AI's safety rules decline is refused with nothing charged; describe the shot differently. Text in a shot, such as a sign, can come out misspelled: add words as a text layer instead, or put them in a reference picture.
