Movement & looks

Select a layer, then open Effects in the left panel. It has three tabs: Motion, Look and Sound.

The effects on the selected layer are listed in its properties on the right, in the order they are applied. The eye beside each one turns it off and on (a struck-through eye is off) without removing it; ✕ removes it.

A chip on each effect says what kind it is; hover it for a line about what it does. Motion and looks are free. Generates marks an effect that AI makes once as a new file, which costs money and takes a few minutes.

Motion

Presets apply a ready-made combination in one click — thirty of them, twenty for text and ten for pictures and clips: for example Caption pop (word by word, timed to the voice), Lower third, Burst and explode, Neon sign or Warm push. Or choose each part yourself:

EntranceFade, Rise up, Drop in, Slide in, Pop, Blur in, Typewriter, Wipe, Burst in.
While on screenPulse, Float, Shake, Ken Burns.
ExitHard cut, Fade out, Sink, Shrink, Explode.

Text can arrive all at once, line by line, word by word or letter by letter, and word by word can be timed to the voiceover so each word lands as it is spoken.

Explode breaks a layer into pieces and throws them outward. On a picture, the image is cut into a grid. On text, the pieces are whatever the entrance cut it into — set the entrance to Word by word or Letter by letter, or a caption explodes as one piece.

Shapes take the same entrances, exits and while-on-screen movement as pictures, and the exported file moves them exactly as the preview does. Explode and Burst in on a shape read as a simple grow or shrink, because a block of one colour has no pieces to throw.

Look

For pictures and clips, Grades: Black & white, Duotone, Warm grade, Cool grade, Punch, Soft focus, Vignette and Film grain. For text: Neon glow and Outline. Looks are free.

Outline draws a hard edge around the letters so white text stays readable over moving footage. Set its Thickness and its Colour — Black, White or Brand.

Captions hard to read over footage? Add a black Outline before making the text bigger. A glow softens the letters; an outline separates them.

Restyle

Restyle turns a photo into artwork: Pencil drawing, 2-D cartoon, Anime, Watercolour, Line art or Paper cut-out. It runs once and saves the result into Media as a new file, so the original is never changed, and making the same style of the same photo again is free.

Each restyle costs about $0.04, shown before it runs and in your usage as Media Library — restyling an image. Each video has a spending limit for AI work, restyles and generated shots together. Restyle works on still pictures only.

Typeface

Every text layer can have its own typeface, chosen in Properties. Leave it on Brand font and it follows the project’s Brand Kit. The others are Outfit, Inter, Playfair Display, and five display faces for captions: Anton and Bebas Neue (condensed capitals), Archivo (heavy), Permanent Marker (brush) and Caveat (handwriting). Two or three across a whole video is usually enough.

Properties also holds each layer’s colour, size, position and Angle.
