Prompting Chat & Research well

Specific prompts, in small steps, get the best results. Five habits make the difference.

1. Say what it is, who it is for, and what is on screen

Name the kind of thing, its audience, and the sections or actions it needs.

Instead of"a dashboard"
Try"An analytics dashboard for a SaaS product: a left sidebar, a row of four KPI cards, a line chart of sign-ups over time, and a table of recent accounts."

2. Build in small steps

Get the structure first, then change one thing at a time: the layout, then "now add…", then "restyle the…". It is faster, and each reply costs less.

3. Describe the look and feel

Mood, density and style: "clean and minimal, lots of white space", "dark, with one bright accent", "playful and rounded". Your project's Brand Kit already supplies its colours and fonts, so you don't need to repeat them.

4. Ask for realistic data and every state

"Fill it with realistic sample data", "show the empty, loading and error states", "make the form validate and show a success message". A prototype with content in it is far easier to judge.

5. Say how it should behave

"Clicking a row opens a detail panel", "the tabs switch", "the buttons show a confirmation".

Fix rather than restart. When something is off, say what to change — "the sidebar is too wide", "space out the cards" — and the rest stays as it is.
