Chat & Research

The Chat & Research screen

A map of the screen, top to bottom and left to right. Chat & Research opens with the hub's navigation hidden so the whole window is yours; ☰ at the top left brings it back.

Top bar, leftThe state of this tab's work (for example Not saved or Saved to Reports) and what the tab is: Chat & Research, Prototype or Skill.
Top bar, centreOn a prototype tab: ◇ Edit, the Desktop, Tablet and Phone preview widths, and Comments.
Top bar, rightThe version list, then what this kind of tab can do. A Chat & Research tab has Export and Save ▾. A prototype tab has Open, reload, open in a new tab, the review page (once published), ⤢ Export and Publish. A skill tab has Library and Save skill.
TabsEvery piece of work open in this project, with + at the end for a new Chat & Research tab. A dot means not saved.
ConversationWhere you ask and refine. The message box has + for attachments, the documents button, the model menu and Send. On a Chat & Research tab with nothing made yet, it uses the whole width.
Right sideWhat the tab made. On a Chat & Research tab: the document, spreadsheet or PDF on a white page, with × to hide it. On a prototype tab: the live prototype, which works as it will for visitors. On a skill tab: the skill.
Right panelOpens for ◇ Edit and Comments on a prototype. Drag its edge to resize it; › collapses it to a strip.

Buttons at the top of the conversation float it over the preview or close it for a full-width preview; CHAT at the edge brings it back.

Under each answer

Every answer on a Chat & Research tab has a row of actions under it. Point at an answer to see its row; the latest answer's row is always shown, and on a touch screen every row is.

CopyCopies the answer, formatted, so it pastes as rich text into a document or email and as plain text anywhere else.
Read aloudReads the answer out. Press it again to pause or resume, and Stop reading to stop. One answer reads at a time; starting another stops the first. It uses a little credit for the words read, shown under Chat & Research in Billing; playing the same answer again on the same page costs nothing.
The timeWhen the answer arrived, such as 4 minutes ago. Point at it for the exact date and time, in the time zone on your profile.
Show sourcesShown when the answer used sources, with how many. It opens the list under the answer and changes to Hide sources, which closes it again: documents from Data Management open there (a PDF at the page the answer used), and web pages open in a new browser tab. Citations in the answer, such as [p. 2, Plan.pdf], are links to the same sources. Only a source the answer actually used becomes a link.
Generate documentTurns that answer into a document on the right, as a new version of the tab's work, with its sources listed at the end. It uses no credit. Save it like any document made on the tab (a Hub page unless you choose another format), or export it.

All of this stays with the conversation when the tab is reloaded, and with a saved conversation when it is opened again.

Edit part of a prototype

Click ◇ Edit, then click a part of the prototype.

  • On a prototype built from VeraGen components, the right panel shows Tools, Layers and Properties: change the selected part's settings directly, or describe a change and click Apply with AI. These changes are saved with the prototype.
  • On any other prototype, you can change the words of what you click. These edits show in the preview only and are gone when it reloads — ask for the change in the conversation to keep it.

Versions

Every reply that makes or changes something is a new version. Pick one from the version list to see it. On a Chat & Research tab, Restore this version makes an older one the latest again.

Zoom and shortcuts

+ and − zoom a prototype, 0 resets it, and Space-drag pans. Each prototype tab keeps its own zoom and preview width. Press ? for every keyboard shortcut. The shortcuts for editing, zoom and the right-hand panel work on prototype tabs only; on a Chat & Research or Skill tab they do nothing.

On a phone, the Conversation tab and the tab named for what was made (Prototype, Document, Spreadsheet or PDF) switch between the two halves.
