FOIA Gen
A request's history
Open a request and choose History. It is the complete record of the request: every step, by whom and when, and a copy of everything sent to and received from the agency. Nothing in it can be changed or deleted, by you or by anyone else: the database itself refuses any change to a step once it is recorded. A request's history is removed only with all of the account's data, when a closed account is deleted as the Privacy Policy describes.

Your Request's History as Evidence2:40 video| When | The time, in your profile's timezone. |
|---|---|
| Who | The email address of the person who did it; FOIA Gen for something it did by itself, such as working out a deadline from an agency's letter or sending a reminder; Agency for a message from the agency's own address; or Unconfirmed sender for a message from any other address (it is filed, but changes nothing). |
| What happened | One line saying what it was, for example Sent by email to records@agency.gov or The agency acknowledged the request. |
| Fingerprint | For anything sent or received, and for each draft and appeal the AI wrote, a fingerprint (a SHA-256 hash) of the exact text as it was kept. Press the copy button to copy the whole fingerprint. If anyone changes even one character of the message, its fingerprint no longer matches, so you can show the copy is the one that was sent. |
Download on a step with a kept copy downloads the exact message. Export CSV saves the whole history as a spreadsheet, with every fingerprint. Print or PDF prints it, or saves it as a PDF, for an appeal, a complaint or a court.
The history, with every fingerprint, can also be read by your own systems through the VeraGen API, with an API key that has the foia_requests:read scope. Create and revoke API keys
