Email a digest

The Email a digest block sends the newest items a project's Read feeds block collected, as one email, to every Thrive contact with a tag. With a Schedule trigger it is a newsletter.

Set it up

  1. Add a Schedule trigger: Every day at the time you want, and a Time zone so the time holds when the clocks change.
  2. Click Email a digest under Actions and connect it after the trigger.
  3. Choose the Project whose collected items it sends, and the tag under Send to contacts tagged.
  4. Fill in the Heading, Subject ({{date}} is the day, in the trigger's time zone), an optional Opening line, the From name and an optional Read more link. The heading and from name default to the project's name; the colour comes from the project's Brand Kit.
  5. Press Run to get a test copy, then set the workflow to Active.

Who gets it, and when

  • It goes to the list only when the Schedule starts it, and at most once a day. Run, or any other start, sends one copy marked [Test] to you.
  • Everyone with the tag who can be emailed gets it. A contact who opted out of email, is on do-not-contact, or used an unsubscribe link is skipped.
  • Every email has an Unsubscribe link, and mail apps show their own unsubscribe button.
  • Under Advanced: items from the last 24 hours, 2 days or 7 days; at most 5 to 25 items; and the fewest worth sending. With fewer than that, nothing is sent that day, and the run says so.

A published collection's sign-up adds people to the tag. Publish a collection

Newsletters you already had

A project that had a newsletter has a paused workflow named Newsletter: and the project's name: a Schedule at 6:00 in New York and this block. Everyone who had confirmed is a Thrive contact with the tag newsletter- and the project's address name; everyone who had unsubscribed is a contact who opted out of email. Switch the workflow on, and it sends the newsletter from then on.
