Publish a collection
Publishing a project's collection, what its Read feeds block keeps, lets any website read it: a public, read-only API, an RSS and an Atom feed, a share card for each item, and an optional sign-up. Open the Read feeds block and its Publishing section.
Publish it
- Choose an Address name: 3 to 60 lowercase letters, digits or dashes. It is the collection's name in every address, and once it is yours nobody else can take it, even after you unpublish.
- Give it a Title. Your website, a link to one item on your website (with
{id}where the item's id goes) and a Sign-up tag are optional. - Press Publish. The block shows the addresses for the API, RSS and Atom.
Publishing needs an account owner or admin, or the project's owner. Unpublish stops every address answering; the address name stays yours.
What a website can read
| The collection | /public/collections/<address name>: its title, description and sections. |
|---|---|
| Its items | …/items, newest first, 24 at a time (up to 100). Filter by category, region, a search with q, with_image=1, and since and before dates; sort=score puts the highest-scored first; scope=all adds items that have aged out. …/items/<id> is one item. |
| RSS and Atom | …/rss and …/atom, the 50 newest items, optionally one category. |
| Share cards | …?share=<id> answers with the card a social network or chat app shows for a link, then sends a person on to the item on your website, or to the item itself. |
Each item carries its title, link, summary, picture, source, section, region, score, tags and date. The collection only ever shows items from approved publishers; a website decides how to order and lay them out. Ranking a front page, counting views or drawing a map is the website's job.
Sign-ups
With a Sign-up tag, your website can post a person's email to …/subscribe. They get an email asking them to confirm; once they press Confirm, they are a Thrive contact with that tag. Someone who asked not to receive your emails is not added again, and the page tells them so. An Email a digest block sends to the tag. Email a digest
